E Pluribus Unum: Out of many . . . one what?
E Pluribus Unum
A sunflare squints o'er
Lady Liberty
Spilling sunshine
Through tears of dew
She has spent the long night crying
But now the day is new
Mayhaps her plight has worsened
Mayhaps her children have strayed
Mayhaps all in all
There's no reason to hope
Hope should have died with yesterday
And yet the dawn
Dries our mother's face
Like the shoulder of a bosom friend
For she knows that each day
The sun returns
That day will not be the end
And as hard as the masses may try
To imagine God away
To scour his name out of stone and pledge
To forbid the children to pray
Silence cannot discredit fact
Any more than a blind
